The High-Octane World of Backstage Artistry
Paris Fashion Week represents the pinnacle of the industry, where trends are born and creative boundaries are pushed to their limits. Our team was tasked with executing a cohesive beauty look for a prominent designer's autumn/winter collection. The environment backstage is a whirlwind of motion, requiring speed, precision, and the ability to maintain calm under extreme pressure. Every model must walk onto the runway looking identical in style yet unique in their individual grace.
The Signature Runway Look
The designer's vision for this season was 'Industrial Romanticism.' We translated this into a makeup look featuring a deep, smudged charcoal eye paired with a completely nude, almost erased lip. The skin was kept damp and dewy, reflecting the harsh runway lights to create a sense of raw energy. Achieving this 'sweaty' but controlled glow involves a mix of facial oils and high-gloss balms applied to the high points of the face. Turnexedic artists are trained to work with these unconventional textures to achieve high-impact results.
Fast-Paced Hair Transformations
Hair styling for the runway often involves rapid changes between looks. For the main show, we created a 'wet look' that appeared as if the models had just walked through a storm. We used large quantities of high-shine gel and water-based sprays to saturate the hair, combing it back into a tight, severe shape. This sleekness emphasized the movement of the garments and ensured that the hair remained perfectly in place during the fast-paced walk. The challenge lies in making the hair look intentionally damp without it becoming messy or flat.
Consistency Across the Board
With thirty models to prepare in a limited timeframe, consistency is the ultimate goal. We organized the team into specialized stations—skin, eyes, and hair—to streamline the process. Each artist followed a strict template to ensure the designer's vision was replicated perfectly across different ethnicities and hair types. This logistical mastery is just as important as the artistic skill when working at the international level of fashion.
